A great 5G experience benefits from a strong 4G foundation in Germany, Italy & the UK
Opensignal analyzed the impact of different amounts of 5G and 4G spectrum on the overall 5G mobile experience of our users. Our research shows that users in Germany, Italy and the UK saw significantly faster 5G average download speeds when they were also connected to additional amounts of 4G spectrum, through older 4G technology.
Wifi usage explains why Sardinian smartphone users consume the most mobile data in Italy
Opensignal analyzed mobile data consumption across Italian regions during the second quarter of 2021, and found that smartphone users in Sardinia consumed the most data on average, followed by Sicily and the two northern macro regions.

As more EMEA operators deploy higher speed 5G in more locations we will see the 5G experience improve significantly. The wide differences in 5G experience indicate how much there is still to do. But already, 5G download speeds are considerably faster than 4G, and 5G offers an improved mobile video streaming experience.
