In this report, we have recorded many changes in the 5G experience of our U.S. users, but not all are upward. This time, T-Mobile is the only carrier seeing its experience improve across all six categories of the mobile experience we analyzed.

In this report it is clear that 5G is having a large impact on the overall experience scores. For example, T-Mobile now wins the Download Speed Experience award — fuelled by the progress it made during 2021 in 5G Download Speed.
CBRS usage highlights the strengths and weaknesses of C-band spectrum in the US

Analyzing mobile experience at NFL stadiums
The 2021/2022 season is the first full season where there is widely available 5G from all three national mobile carriers. In this first Opensignal analysis at US sports venues we have analyzed our users’ 5G and overall mobile experience on the three national carriers. 5G is especially important for stadiums because of the need to serve large numbers of users in close proximity without network congestion.
2.5 GHz mid-band spectrum drives T-Mobile’s 5G speeds in the US
Our analysis shows that T-Mobile’s acquisition of Sprint’s mid-band spectrum assets through the merger allowed it to build a substantial lead over its competitors as measured in our recent USA 5G Experience reports. T-Mobile now has a significant competitive advantage over its competitors, which don’t have access to any mid-band spectrum bands just yet.

In this report, we have seen big movements in the 5G experience in a number of categories. However, there is only one change in our 5G award table since our previous 5G report: Verizon is now the sole winner of 5G Video Experience after sharing the award with AT&T last time.
