Mobile network speeds leaped ahead in 2023, but some markets lag behind
Here we review the progression of mobile network user experience that took place over 2023. By examining the Download Speed Experience during the year-end three-month periods of both 2022 and 2023, we have identified a clear positive trend in network performance across the regions of Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa, and the Asia Pacific, which have exacerbated the experience gap seen between markets that existed before.

In Opensignal's latest Türkiye Mobile Network Experience report, Turkcell wins four awards outright, as it successfully defends both speed awards, Video Experience and Excellent Consistent Quality. Türk Telekom ends up with two sole victories — it retains Voice App Experience and wins Core Consistent Quality back from Turkcell. Both operators are now joint winners for Games Experience and Availability, which were previously in the sole possession of Türk Telekom.
Poor connectivity damages the mobile app business
With poor mobile connectivity, users spend 20% less time in each app session while with poor Wi-Fi it’s an even greater 38% less time. After seven days, app retention rates are 49% lower for users that have seen consistently poor connectivity.
