In our recent insight we analyzed the Games Experience in Indonesia’s largest cities, at an aggregated level, and found that the typical mobile games experience ranges from Fair to Poor. In this report we took another look, this time at the operator level, and found that our national winner 3 was dominated by Telkomsel in the biggest cities. While 3 won the award in three cities — Banjarmasin, Kota Pontianak, and Semarang — Telkomsel won in 16 cities outright and in the remaining 11 cities both operators were deadlocked for first place. Our users on Telkomsel’s network enjoyed a Good Games Experience in 13 cities which include Jakarta, Kota Bandung, Kota Bekasi and Medan, while in the remaining 11 cities their Games Experience was Fair.
Turning to our speed metrics, in the Download Speed Experience category it was a clear win for Telkomsel in 25 cities. The operator tied in a further two cities with Indosat in Padang and Semarang, and in Kota Cirebon, we saw a three-way-split between Telkomsel, Indosat and XL. Indosat won outright in the two remaining cities — Medan and Pekanbaru. We saw a close-run race in Upload Speed Experience, where the majority of awards were spread between Telkomsel and XL, followed by Indosat.
Meanwhile, Smartfren dominated in 4G Availability, with our 4G users on its network being able to latch onto 4G services at least 96% of the time in all 30 cities.
