In our regional outlook we analyzed users’ mobile network experience in 24 cities across Indonesia. Our national results were echoed at the regional level, as one operator continued to shine in the majority of award categories. Telkomsel won our Download Speed Experience award outright in every single city, except Balikpapan and Kota Cirebon, where it shared first place with Smartfren and XL respectively. The operator was at its peak in Pekanbaru, where our users on its network experienced the fastest download speeds of 17.8 Mbps on average, an improvement of almost 3 Mbps to break its own highest score from the last report.
Telkomsel also dominated the regional Upload Speed Experience category by winning the award outright in 19 cities individually, and drawing first with Indosat in Surabaya. The highest Upload Speeds were experienced by our users on Telkomsel’s network in Denpasar — 9.9 Mbps on average. XL won the award outright in the remaining 4 cities — Batam, Kota Cirebon, Makassar and Manado.
Looking at Latency Experience, Telkomsel’s score of 32.4 ms in Pekanbaru was the fastest across all 24 cities in this category. The operator won awards individually in 21 cities, whereas 3 was the only other operator to win awards in this category, in Banjarmasin and tied with Telkomsel in Balipakan and Cirebon for the first place.
Coming to Opensignal’s unique metrics — Video and Voice App Experience. Our users enjoyed the best Video Experience on Telkomsel’s network in Pekanbaru, as the operator scored 66.9 points to garner a Very Good rating. Telkomsel triumphed by winning awards in 20 cities, and drawing first with XL in further four — Batam, Cimahi, Kota Cirebon, and Kota Yogyakarta. In general, across all 24 cities the scores for Telkomsel ranged from Good to Very Good ratings.
It was a close-run race in our Voice App Experience category, but Telkomsel lead the regional results by winning in each one of the cities — individually in 19 cities and sharing the first place with XL in Cimahi and Kota Cirebon, as well as with Indosat in Pekanbaru and Kota Yogyakarta. Our users on Telkomsel’s network in Balikpapan perceived the best Voice App Experience across Indonesia: the operator's score of 82 points achieved a Good rating, which means on average our users on this network were satisfied and experienced minor quality impairments, occasionally accompanied by clicking sounds or distortions.
In 4G Availability, Smartfren dominated our charts in each of the locations. Our users on Smartfren’s network connected to 4G services at least 96% of the time in all 24 cities, including Cilegon, where it tied with 3 for the first place.
