Key Findings

Etisalat scores big with Download Speed Experience that is 72% faster than du

Etisalat comfortably won the Download Speed Experience with a score of 39.5 Mbps — a 43% increase over its speed of 27.6 Mbps that we recorded in our last report in May. The operator maintained its competitive edge over du with the download speed experienced by our users that is 72% faster than its rival's speed of 22.9 Mbps. However, du should be recognized for the 66% increase to its score over the past six months.

Etisalat and du boost Upload Speed Experience but Etisalat wins the prize

Etisalat also maintained a strong lead in Upload Speed Experience clocking in at 11.1 Mbps — 50% faster than our users on du’s upload speed of 7.4 Mbps. It’s notable that the upload speeds experienced by users on both operators have significantly increased since our previous report. Etisalat and du increased their Upload Speed Experience by 32% and 51% respectively from the 8.4 Mbps and 4.9 Mbps that we recorded in May.

4G Availability was strong with both UAE operators

Our users in the U.A.E. continue to enjoy high 4G Availability. Etisalat easily won the category with an 89.5% score and is just a tad shy of the coveted 90% availability mark. du’s 4G Availability is also strong at 86.9%. Etislalat saw an incremental increase in its score, while du's was up by 1.4 percentage points.

Video Experience was on the upswing

Etisalat wins again in our Video Experience category with a score of 69.1 points (on a 1-100 scale). That puts it firmly in our Very Good rating, meaning short load times and minimal stalling during playback, even at higher video resolutions. With a score of 64.5, du is also on the verge of moving into the Very Good rating. Both operators improved over the results we saw in our last report. Etisalat saw an increase of 6% from its previous score and du saw a jump of 15%.

Introduction

Once again Etisalat was the big winner in our U.A.E. mobile network experience report. Etisalat won five of our national awards and continued to dominate in the Download and Upload Speed Experience categories. However, in the 4G Availability category both Etisalat and competitor du are strong, with Etisalat nearly achieving the highly coveted 90% mark and du following close behind with almost 87% availability. Our users also saw significant improvement in their Video Experience, with Etisalat winning our award by a margin of 4.6 points.

5G is beginning to make an appearance in U.A.E. In May, Etisalat launched a 5G mobile service/ in a handful of markets along with a 5G smartphone. In addition, du started rolling out 5G in the spring and recently announced that it plans to cover 15% of the U.A.E.’s population with 5G by year-end.

We have included our 5G users’ measurements in our overall metric categories to understand the true user experience as the usage of the new technology grows.

Opensignal measures the real-world experience of consumers on mobile networks in the places they live, work and travel.

We continually adapt our methodology to best represent the true experience of smartphone users. Therefore, comparisons of the results to past reports should be considered indicative only.

For every metric we calculate statistical confidence intervals indicated on our graphs. When confidence intervals overlap, our measured results are too close to declare a winner. In those cases, we show a statistical draw. For this reason, some metrics have multiple winners.

In our bar graphs we represent confidence intervals as boundaries on either sides of graph bars. In our supporting-metric charts we show confidence intervals as +/- numerical values.
