Introduction
In this report we examined the mobile network experience of the four nationwide mobile network operators in Vietnam: MobiFone, Vinaphone, Viettel Mobile and Vietnamobile, over a period of 90 days beginning May 1, 2020, to see how they fared.
Viettel Mobile continues to dominate the mobile network experience landscape in Vietnam. The operator scooped up an impressive six out of seven awards and jointly won the Upload Speed Experience award with MobiFone. Additionally, Viettel Mobile also set new benchmarks on 4G Availability and Download Speed Experience: our users on its network were able to find a 4G connection more than 90% of the time, and observed download speeds above 26 Mbps, on average. Meanwhile, our MobiFone users saw some of the largest improvements across the majority of metrics since our last report six months ago, most notably of 4.3 Mbps or 25% growth in Download Speed Experience followed by 5.8 percentage points in 4G Availability.
This is the first time that Opensignal has assessed how mobile users experience real-time multiplayer mobile gaming at the operator-level in Vietnam. Viettel Mobile is the clear winner, with a score of 72.3 points and a sizeable lead of 4.6 points over second-placed MobiFone.
Measured on a scale of 0-100, Opensignal’s Games Experience metric quantifies the experience when playing real-time multiplayer mobile games on mobile devices connected to servers located around the world. The approach is built on several years of research quantifying the relationship between technical network parameters and the gaming experience as reported by real mobile users. These parameters include a non-linear combination of UDP latency time, jitter, and packet loss. Additionally, it considers multiple genres of multiplayer mobile games to measure the average sensitivity to network conditions. The games tested include some of the most popular real-time multiplayer mobile games such as Call of Duty, PUBG, Arena of Valor and Brawl Stars, played around the world.
