In this latest definitive analysis of 5G worldwide leaders, there are many new entrants in the top 15 markets across different measures of 5G mobile network experience compared with the last 5G benchmark in March. Bulgaria enters the table in six categories, ranking especially highly on 5G Download Speed (316.8 Mbps), although South Korea tops the table.

Though 5G was first launched in Brazil in July 2020, the country is still in the early stages of 5G deployment. While operators closed 2021 with 1.2m 5G subscriptions, they had to rely on Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology that uses existing 4G spectrum for both 4G and 5G connections.

In this analysis, Opensignal has looked at how three national operators in Colombia use their spectrum holdings in one of the legacy 3G bands — 1900 MHz (band 2), also known as the PCS band. We observed that mobile operators have been shifting their use of this band from 3G to 4G technology and also have moved to larger channel widths for 4G connections which helps to boost the mobile experience of users.

In our new analysis, Opensignal has observed that our smartphone users in Switzerland experienced worse signal strength when connected to 5G networks than users in neighboring countries — Germany, France and Italy. Also, we found a link between the quality of mobile signal strength and average 5G download speeds: the worse the signal strength, the slower the speeds.
