Jakarta’s blackout had a nationwide impact on 3 and Indosat’s networks

Opensignal observed an impact on our Indonesian users’ experience following the massive electrical blackout which began just before midday on Sunday, August 4, local time. However, the resulting effects on mobile service we measured were not limited to the areas where the power went out — Jakarta and West Java — but spread to the whole of Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

Competition intensifies as Singapore approaches 90% 4G Availability

In Opensignal’s analysis of 4G Availability in Singapore, our measurements have shown an upward trend in the past 12 months for all three national operators, but the greatest improvement was experienced by our users on StarHub’s network. From the beginning of June, 2018 until the beginning of November, 2018 the operator enhanced its 4G Availability from 82.6% to 87.1% — an outstanding boost of over 4 percentage points.

Parts of rural Germany see less than 50% 4G Availability

In our recent analysis, we found that the average 4G Availability in rural Germany was 73.5% experienced by our users, compared with 82.2% in urban areas. In this follow-up insight, we analyzed the range and spread of rural 4G Availability — which is a measure of the proportion of time our users with a 4G device and subscription were able to get a 4G connection — in the more remote parts of the country.

According to Opensignal's latest analysis of the 20 of the largest cities in Mexico, though, Chihuahua could just as well be synonymous with fast mobile broadband speeds. The city topped our chart in Download Speed Experience and was among the fastest in Upload Speed Experience.

Germany's rural 4G users still spend one-fourth of their time on 3G and 2G networks

In the first quarter of 2019, our smartphone users in Germany could on average access the internet over 4G networks 82.2% of the time when they were in the urban districts, but this dropped to just 73.5% of the time in the rural districts. Our users in rural areas spend more than one-quarter of their time connected to 2G and 3G networks.

 

Rio de Janeiro: 4G Availability surges thanks to 700 MHz rollout
