Key Findings

O2 takes home the 5G Download Speed award

In the first report on 5G experience in the Czech Republic, we have a clear winner of 5G Download Speed, as our users on O2’s network enjoyed average 5G download speeds of 140.4 Mbps. The operator commanded a 30 Mbps (27.2%) lead over second-placed T-Mobile. Vodafone trailed behind, with a score of 78 Mbps — 44.4% slower than what we observed on O2’s 5G network.

T-Mobile wins 5G Upload Speed outright with a score of nearly 50 Mbps

T-Mobile claims the second 5G speeds award — 5G Upload Speed, with a stunning result of 48.7 Mbps — 13.9-18.8 Mbps ahead of Vodafone and O2, which statistically tied for second place. Our Czech users enjoyed average 5G upload speeds of at least 30 Mbps. This is an important feat: as mobile internet trends move away from downloading content to creating content and supporting real-time communications services, upload speeds are becoming more important to users.

Czech Republic’s operators rate Excellent in 5G Games Experience

All three national operators in the Czech Republic — O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone — jointly win the 5G Games Experience award, with impressive scores ranging between 87 and 89.2 points. As a result, all Czech networks placed in the Excellent (85 or above) category. This means, the vast majority of users deemed this network experience acceptable and nearly all respondents felt like they had control over the game and they received immediate feedback on their actions. There was not a noticeable delay in almost all cases.

Three-way statistical ties for the 5G Video Experience and 5G Voice App Experience

Just like in the case of 5G Games Experience, we observed a tightly-fought competition for the remaining experiential awards — 5G Video Experience and 5G Voice App Experience. Our Czech users saw three-way statistical ties for all three 5G experiential awards. All operators rated as Excellent (75 or above) for video services which means fast loading times and almost non-existent stalling. In 5G Voice App Experience, all the Czech Republic’s operators placed in the Good (80<87) category.

T-Mobile and Vodafone jointly win the 5G Availability award

5G Availability shows the proportion of time Opensignal users with a 5G device and subscription had an active 5G connection. T-Mobile and Vodafone jointly win the 5G Availability award, with scores of 8.1-11.5%. O2 lagged behind, as our users on its network connected to 5G networks 4.3% of the time.

Introduction

In Opensignal's first 5G Experience Report on the Czech Republic, T-Mobile rakes one outright win for 5G Upload Speed — and four joint wins across six categories. O2 follows closely, bagging the 5G Download Speed award outright and three more shared victories, while Vodafone ends with a haul of four joint wins. All three operators jointly win the three 5G experiential awards — 5G Video Experience, 5G Games Experience and 5G Voice App Experience.

High scores achieved by its national operators place the Czech Republic among the global leaders for 5G experience. In the latest Benchmarking the Global 5G Experience report, the Czech Republic made it into the Top 15 markets for 5G Upload Speed, along with all three experiential metrics — 5G Video Experience, 5G Games Experience and 5G Voice App Experience.

O2 was the first mobile operator in Czech Republic to launch its 5G network in July 2020, while Vodafone and T-Mobile followed suit shortly afterwards in October and November 2020 respectively. According to operators’ claims, Vodafone covered more than 50% of Czech population in November 2021 with its NSA network, while T-Mobile targeted to cover 25% of Czech citizens by the end of 2021.

In this report, we examine the 5G experience of our users on the three main mobile network operators in the Czech Republic: O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone, over the 90 day period beginning on November 1, 2021, and ending on January 29, 2022, to see how they fared. We have also published a companion report — Czech Republic Mobile Network Experience — which analyzes the overall experience of all our mobile users in the Czech Republic.

Opensignal measures the real-world experience of consumers on mobile networks in the places they live, work and travel.

We continually adapt our methodology to best represent the true experience of smartphone users. Therefore, comparisons of the results to past reports should be considered indicative only.

For every metric we calculate statistical confidence intervals indicated on our graphs. When confidence intervals overlap, our measured results are too close to declare a winner. In those cases, we show a statistical draw. For this reason, some metrics have multiple winners.

In our bar graphs we represent confidence intervals as boundaries on either sides of graph bars. In our supporting-metric charts we show confidence intervals as +/- numerical values.
