Key Findings

Vodafone wins the 4G Availability award outright for the first time

With a score of 87% Vodafone moves clear of its rivals to win the award. In the last report, One and Vodafone shared the prize. However, now One drops to second place, with our One users spending 83.2% of the time connected to 4G. ALBtelecom lags in third place with a score of 70.9%. Vodafone also held the 4G Coverage Experience award with a score of 8 on a ten-point scale ahead of One's score of 7.6.

Voice App Experience is again won by One

Our One users are the only ones to enjoy a Good Voice App Experience (80<87) with a score of 80.7 on a 100 point scale. Vodafone came second again but One has extended the lead to 1.3 from one point from our last report. Voice App Experience quantifies the use of real-time communication with popular over-the-top apps such as WhatsApp, Skype or Facebook Messenger using an approach based on an International Telecommunications Union (ITU)-based method.

In both speed categories, One and Vodafone jointly win

There is nothing to separate the two operators in either Download Speed Experience or Upload Speed Experience. The average download speed our users saw was 34.2 Mbps using Vodafone and 31.8 Mbps with One which was a statistical draw. Both operators' scores were a long way ahead of ALBtelecom's score of 13.3 Mbps. Similarly, looking at average upload speeds, the winning operators' scores were over twice as fast as the upload speed seen by our ALBtelecom users. Vodafone and One scored 10.5 Mbps and 10.2 Mbps respectively, while ALBtelecom's score was 5 Mbps.

One and Vodafone users enjoyed a Very Good Video Experience

The two operators jointly win the Video Experience award. One and Vodafone's scores of 69 and 69.7 respectively on a 100-point scale fall into the Very Good category (65<75) but ALBtelecom's score of 60.4 is Good (55<65) meaning that they had a less consistent experience, particularly at higher resolutions, with slower loading times and stalling not being uncommon.

Vodafone catches One on multiplayer mobile gaming to jointly win Games Experience

In the last report, One won Games Experience outright but has to accept a draw this time. The two operators' winning scores — 70.9 for One and 68.3 for Vodafone on a 100-point scale — are a statistical tie. Again, ALBtelecom's users' experience was a long way behind with a score of 45.2. Games Experience is based on several years of research quantifying the relationship between real-world measurements of technical parameters and users' gaming experience for popular genres of multiplayer games such as battle royale (e.g. Fornite or PUBG) or massive online battle arena (MOBA) titles such as Arena of Valor.

Introduction

In this latest report on the mobile network experience in Albania the difference between each operator's experience has narrowed. Now One and Vodafone are extremely close in most award categories, although ALBtelecom continues to struggle to compete.

Fourth generation mobile networks continue to be dominant in Albania. However, as attention turns to 5G, Albania is now coordinating more closely with the U.S. on new telecom infrastructure investments. Albania's national plan for sustainable development has a goal of a 5G launch by 2025.

In this report on mobile network experience we analyze real-world measurements recorded by our users in the 90 days between July 1 and September 28, 2021 across all mobile technology generations.

Opensignal measures the real-world experience of consumers on mobile networks in the places they live, work and travel.

We continually adapt our methodology to best represent the true experience of smartphone users. Therefore, comparisons of the results to past reports should be considered indicative only.

For every metric we calculate statistical confidence intervals indicated on our graphs. When confidence intervals overlap, our measured results are too close to declare a winner. In those cases, we show a statistical draw. For this reason, some metrics have multiple winners.

In our bar graphs we represent confidence intervals as boundaries on either sides of graph bars. In our supporting-metric charts we show confidence intervals as +/- numerical values.
