Key Findings

Vip and mts jointly win the Games Experience award

For multiplayer mobile gaming, two operators statistically tie. Vip and mts' scores of 69.8 and 72.5 are over eight points ahead of third placed Telenor on our 100-point scale. The experience of our users on the winning operators was Fair (65<75), meaning that in most cases the game was responsive to the actions of the player with most users having reported that they felt like they had control over the game.

On Download Speed Experience, Telenor and Vip lead

With identical scores of 31.9 Mbps, our users on the two winning operators enjoyed a faster speed than our users using third placed MTS who experienced a speed of 29.2 Mbps. However, there has been no significant acceleration in speeds since our last report six months ago.

There is a clear winning margin for Upload Speed Experience

The Upload Speed Experience of the joint winners — Telenor and mts — was approximately 25% faster than the speed seen by our users connecting with Vip. The winners' scores of 11.8 Mbps and 11.5 Mbps were well ahead of Vip's score of 9.2 Mbps.

Video Experience sees little difference between all three operators

While Vip and mts jointly win the Video Experience award again, their winning scores of 75.7 and 74.3 are only fractionally higher than Telenor's score of 74 on our 100-point scale. All three are around the boundary between users experiencing an Excellent (75 or above) and Very Good (65 < 75) Video Experience.

Vip wins 4G Availability outright

With a score of 87.9% Vip wins the 4G Availability award meaning Opensignal users spent the greatest proportion of time connected to 4G using Vip. Telenor and mts tie for second place with scores of 82.7% and 83.3% respectively.

Introduction

The mobile experience in Serbia is still dominated by 4G technology, rather than the latest and fastest 5G. The proportion of time that Serbians are able to connect to 4G is good, with users on all three operators seeing 4G Availability levels above 80%.

A 5G spectrum auction is planned but is yet to happen. In May, Ratel started the auction process by opening applications and Serbia's government said it hoped to conduct the auction by the end of 2021. New spectrum will boost the capacity of mobile networks and help mobile operators to greatly improve the mobile experience using 5G. In other European countries Opensignal has seen big improvements with 5G. Once 5G is available, every category of mobile experience should improve in Serbia.

Opensignal measures the real-world experience of consumers on mobile networks in the places they live, work and travel.

We continually adapt our methodology to best represent the true experience of smartphone users. Therefore, comparisons of the results to past reports should be considered indicative only.

For every metric we calculate statistical confidence intervals indicated on our graphs. When confidence intervals overlap, our measured results are too close to declare a winner. In those cases, we show a statistical draw. For this reason, some metrics have multiple winners.

In our bar graphs we represent confidence intervals as boundaries on either sides of graph bars. In our supporting-metric charts we show confidence intervals as +/- numerical values.
