Key Findings

Tunisie Telecom wins the Games Experience award with a score of 51.8

In Opensignal's measure of the mobile multiplayer gaming experience, Tunisie Telecom leads the competition by almost five points on a 100-point scale, as Ooredoo and Orange scored 47.1 and 45.4 points respectively. Games Experience analyzes how the multiplayer experience of genres that include games such as Fortnite, Arena of Valor and PUBG is affected by mobile network conditions. We measure network characteristics including latency, packet loss and jitter to determine the impact on gameplay and the overall multiplayer Games Experience.

Tunisie Telecom leads in Video Experience, but Ooredoo and Orange are close behind

Tunisie Telecom won the Video Experience award with a score of 67.8 on a 100-point scale, while Ooredoo and Orange scored 66.1 and 64.8 points, respectively. Although the difference among the three operators was but three points, Orange placed in the Good category (55-65 points), while both Tunisie Telecom and Ooredoo achieved a Very Good score (65-75 points). Video Experience quantifies the quality of mobile video experienced by Opensignal users on real-world video streams using an ITU-based approach to convert technical characteristics of the video test into a measure of perceived video experience.

Users on Tunisie Telecom enjoy the fastest average download and upload speeds

Tunisie Telecom had the highest scores for both Download Speed Experience and Upload Speed Experience — and by impressive margins. Our Tunisie Telecom users enjoyed average download speeds that were 4.5 Mbps (24.6%) faster than their counterparts on second-placed Ooredoo. In addition, Tunisie Telecom’s Upload Speed Experience score was 0.8 Mbps (10.8%) faster than on Ooredoo, which again came second.

Ooredoo and Orange jointly win Voice App Experience

Although the three operators were separated by only 2.2 points on a 100-point scale, this time Ooredoo and Orange shared the first place with 78.2 and 78.0 points respectively, while Tunisie Telecom followed behind with a score of 76. Opensignal's Voice App Experience measures the quality of experience for over-the-top (OTT) voice services — mobile voice apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, Facebook Messenger etc.

Our Orange users spent the most time connected to 4G networks

Orange won the 4G Availability award with a score of 85.1%, while Ooredoo and Tunisie Telecom scored 82.7% and 82% respectively. This means that users with a 4G device and subscription on all three networks on average spent more than 80% of their time connected to 4G services.

Introduction

Our first analysis of the mobile experience at the operator-level in Tunisia reveals that Tunisie Telecom has come up top for four out of seven of our metrics, winning two of our experiential awards (Video Experience and Games Experience), and both our speed awards — Download Speed Experience and Upload Speed Experience. On the other hand, Orange won the 4G Availability award and shared the first place with Ooredoo in 4G Coverage Experience and Voice App Experience.

In this report we examined the mobile network experience of the three main mobile network operators in Tunisia: Ooredoo, Orange and Tunisie Telecom, over a period of 90 days beginning December 1, 2020 and ending February 28, 2021, to see how they fared.

Opensignal measures the real-world experience of consumers on mobile networks in the places they live, work and travel.

We continually adapt our methodology to best represent the true experience of smartphone users. Therefore, comparisons of the results to past reports should be considered indicative only.

For every metric we calculate statistical confidence intervals indicated on our graphs. When confidence intervals overlap, our measured results are too close to declare a winner. In those cases, we show a statistical draw. For this reason, some metrics have multiple winners.

In our bar graphs we represent confidence intervals as boundaries on either sides of graph bars. In our supporting-metric charts we show confidence intervals as +/- numerical values.
