TrueMove H kept our award in Video Experience with 62.2 points. In the last six months, our users in Thailand have seen noteworthy improvements in mobile Video Experience on each of the three networks, which in turn elevated their rating from Fair (40-55) to Good (55-65). The biggest improvements were observed by users on AIS’s network, as the operator’s score soared by at least 32%.
Our brand-new measure shows that a typical Games Experience in Thailand can vary from Poor to Fair depending on the choice of operator. AIS became the first operator to win Opensignal’s new Games Experience award, and established a decent lead over its rivals — almost 11% ahead of second-placed DTAC. While both of them achieved a Fair rating, TrueMove H ended up with a Poor rating. Opensignal’s Games Experience quantifies how mobile users experience real-time multiplayer mobile gaming on an operator’s network. Measured on a scale of 0-100, it analyzes how the multiplayer mobile Games Experience is affected by mobile network conditions including latency, packet loss and jitter to determine the impact on gameplay and the overall multiplayer Games Experience.
Our Thai users on each of the three networks are now able to connect to 4G more than 90% of the time. AIS won our 4G Availability award with a remarkable score of 94.9%, followed by DTAC and TrueMove H with 92.3% and 91.6% respectively. Such high scores reflect the omnipresence of LTE in the county, which will aid a smoother transition to 5G as the operators roll-out the next generation networks in the coming months.
There was fierce competition between all three operators for the Voice App Experience award, but AIS maintained its lead with 79.3 points. In the last six months, while our winner fell short of achieving a Good rating, and TrueMove H enhanced its rating from Poor to Acceptable, DTAC’s rating remained the same. This means that our Thai users across all networks now perceive an Acceptable Voice App Experience (74-80) while using OTT voice services on apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Skype.
Our users on DTAC’s network witnessed a 20% increase in Download Speed Experience, and with this improvement the operator not only accomplished the 10 Mbps milestone, but also broke the deadlock with TrueMoveH to win the Download Speed Experience award outright. DTAC’s users saw download speeds that on average were almost 8% higher than those observed by their AIS counterparts, and more than 10% higher than those observed by their TrueMoveH counterparts.
Thailand’s mobile network experience keeps getting better. Since our last report, we have recorded some impressive improvements across the board from all three operators. On the other hand, as we have introduced two new measures of user experience — Games Experience and 4G Coverage Experience — we now see the dominant operator on our award table shift from TrueMove H to AIS. In this report, AIS won four out of seven award categories — Games Experience, Voice App Experience, 4G Availability and 4G Coverage Experience. And with 4G networks nearing maturity, AIS is also leading the 5G race — the operator has claimed to have launched the first 5G services in Thailand on the 2600MHz band, while DTAC is planning to deploy 5G in the 700Mhz band.
In this report, we've analyzed the mobile network experience for all three of Thailand's national operators — AIS, DTAC and TrueMove H — to see how they fared. Alongside the national analysis, we've also measured our users' experience in 27 provinces of the country to see how they match up regionally.

Thailand’s mobile Video Experience is improving; all three operators garnered a Good rating (55-65) in our 100-point Video Experience scale. TrueMove H kept hold of our award with 62.2 points while DTAC trailed the winner closely with 60.5 points. AIS was in last place with a score below 60 points. A Good rating means that our users enjoy an acceptable experience when streaming mobile video at lower resolutions, but loading times can still be slow and stalling is not uncommon, especially at higher resolutions.

Our Thai users saw some impressive improvements in the quality of video streamed on their smartphones across all three networks as their Video Experience rating advanced from Fair (40-55) to Good since the last report. In our measurements, TrueMove H’s and DTAC’s score grew by 9.4 and 11.9 points respectively, while AIS’s score grew further by 14.2 points.
At the same time, when we look at Video Experience on 4G networks only, two operators —DTAC and TrueMoveH — garnered Very Good (65-75) ratings. DTAC and TrueMoveH came neck and neck with scores just above 65 points, while AIS was further behind in the Good category with 60.7 points.
In this report, we take our first look at the Games Experience in Thailand at the operator level. Our brand new metric measures how mobile users experience real-time multiplayer mobile gaming like Fortnite, Call of Duty Mobile, PUBG and Garena Freefire on an operator’s network. Measured on a scale of 0-100, it analyzes how the multiplayer mobile games experience is affected by mobile network conditions including latency, packet loss and jitter to determine the impact on gameplay and the overall multiplayer Games Experience.

AIS became the first Thai operator to win our Games Experience award with a score of 74.9 points, followed by DTAC’s score of 67.7 points. While both operators earned a Fair rating (65-75), TrueMove H narrowly missed the same rating and ended up in the Poor category (40-65) with a score of 64.6 points. A Fair rating means most users deemed the experience “average”; it also indicates that the gameplay experience is generally controllable, with the majority of users noticing a delay between their actions and the outcomes in the game. And as we descend down to the Poor rating, most users find the experience unacceptable, with increased delays and lack of controllability in gameplay.
Opensignal's Voice App Experience quantifies the quality of experience for over-the-top (OTT) voice services — mobile voice apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc. Measured on a scale of 0-100, this metric uses a model derived from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-based approach for quantifying overall voice call quality and a series of calibrated technical parameters. This model characterizes the exact relationship between the technical measurements and perceived call quality.

We saw a tight competition with less than 4 points (out of 100) separating all three operators. AIS topped our measurements with 79.3 points and won the award in this category by boosting its score by 2.2 points in the last six months. DTAC followed closely behind with an improvement of 1.9 points to score 76.5 points, although the highest improvement was recorded on TrueMove H’s network — an increase of 3 points to score 75.6 points. With scores within the 74-80 range, all three operators are now in the Acceptable Voice App Experience category. An Acceptable rating means users were satisfied with the quality of the call and were generally able to comprehend without repetition, while some may have suffered from perceptible call quality impairments such as clicking sounds or distortion.
In our last report, DTAC and TrueMove H were deadlocked for our Download Speed Experience metric, but six months later DTAC has pulled into the lead. The operator won our Download Speed Experience award with a score of 10 Mbps, while TrueMove H finished in last place with a score of 9.1 Mbps. That said, our users saw the greatest improvements on AIS’s network: the operator put in an impressive sprint of nearly 3 Mbps to score 9.3 Mbps.

When we look at Thailand's download speed experience split by technology, the 4G Download Speed Experience mirrors our national results: DTAC led the pack with 11.4 Mbps followed by AIS and TrueMove H with 10.3 Mbps and 10 Mbps respectively. However, in 3G Download Speed Experience TrueMove H came out ahead with 4.7 Mbps.
In Upload Speed Experience, we've recorded decent increases from all three of Thailand's operators. TrueMove H remains the national leader in this category: our users observed a boost of at least 19% over the past six months with their upload speeds averaging 7.2 Mbps on its network. However, this was not the largest increase recorded in our measurements: DTAC’s score grew by at least 30%, while AIS’s score leapt by almost 44% as users on their network experienced upstream speeds of 3.3 Mbps and 5.8 Mbps respectively.

IIn 4G Upload Speed Experience, we saw a wide range of scores. TrueMove H triumphed with a score of 8.4 Mbps, which was 30% faster than AIS’s score of 6.5 Mbps and more than twice as fast as DTAC’s score of 3.7 Mbps. On the other hand, 3G Upload Speed Experience for all three operators remained below 2 Mbps.
4G accessibility in Thailand is approaching near ubiquitous levels. Since the last report, TrueMove H and DTAC have broken through the 90% mark for our 4G Availability metric joining AIS, which was the first Thai operator to achieve the same in our last report. AIS retained its lead and won the 4G Availability award with an impressive score of 94.9%, while DTAC scored 92.3% and moved ahead to finish second and TrueMove H trailed closely behind at 91.6%. This means that our Thai 4G users, on average, are now able to connect to 4G services more than 90% of the time regardless of the network they were on.
AIS also won our inaugural 4G Coverage Experience award in Thailand, with a score of 8.5 points (on a scale of 0-10). TrueMove H finished second with 7.9 points, while DTAC was further behind with 6.4 points.
Opensignal’s 4G Coverage Experience metric is a measure of how our mobile subscribers experience 4G coverage on an operator’s network. Measured on a scale of 0-10, it analyzes the locations where customers of a network operator received a 4G signal relative to the locations visited by Opensignal users of all network operators.
In our regional breakdown, we examined 27 provinces of Thailand on our six primary metrics. AIS shone in our new measure of Games Experience, by winning individually in 22 provinces and drawing in a further five, including two — Krabi and Surin — where it tied with DTAC, one in Si Sa Ket with TrueMove H, and a three-way split in Kanchanaburi. Meanwhile, across all the provinces examined, our users enjoyed a Good Games Experience (75-85) in 12 provinces on AIS’s network.
The national results were also mirrored in Voice App Experience: AIS triumphed in 20 provinces, and tied for the first place in the remaining seven with either or both the rival operators. Our Thai users perceived a Good (80-87) Voice App Experience in 14 provinces on AIS’s network, which is superior to the average national experience. A Good rating means that many users were satisfied but some may have suffered from minor call quality impairments, while communicating via over-the-top (OTT) voice services.
In Video Experience, TrueMove H won in 9 provinces, and drew for the first place in a further 17 provinces — including four with AIS, 12 with DTAC, and a three-way-draw in Samut Sakhon. Meanwhile, DTAC’s sole win in this category was in Nakhon Si Thammarat. That said, our users enjoyed the best Video Experience on TrueMove H’s network in Nonthaburi.
Looking at our speed measurements, in Download Speed Experience, we saw a close run race with all three operators ending up in a dead heat in multiple provinces. DTAC individually won this category in five provinces, while AIS won in three of them. In Thailand, across all networks, our users on AIS’s network in Nonthaburi enjoyed the fastest Download Speed Experience of 17.2 Mbps, on average.
Going a little further, in Bangkok, one operator prevailed on almost all our metrics, and with a substantial lead in most of them. Our users on AIS’s network, experienced the fastest upload and download speeds of 14.9 Mbps and 9.9 Mbps respectively, enjoyed the best Games Experience and Voice App Experience with a Good rating, and saw the highest 4G Availability of 96%, in the capital. Only in Video Experience, they were at par with their Truemove H counterparts, as both the operators rated Very Good in this category with 66.1 points, which means that users observed fast loading times and only occasional stalling while streaming videos on their mobile phones.
