The mobile network experience across five regions in the Philippines has greatly improved since Q4 2018
Opensignal has investigated the mobile network experience of its users across five regions (Mindanao, the National Capital Region — NCR, North & Central Luzon, South Luzon and the Visayas).
When Opensignal compares countries on mobile network experience — for example in our State of Mobile Network Experience report or recently in our new mobile Games Experience report, the same countries are often in the lower ranks and similarly a group of wealthier countries such as Singapore, Japan, or the Netherlands routinely come top.

While users on Smart scored just slightly higher than Globe for 4G Availability across rural and urban areas, the Download Speed Experience of our Filipino users is very polarized. In one year mobile Video Experience has significantly improved in 59% of 100 countries analyzed. But the U.S. is lagging behind on mobile video as carriers face a spectrum crunch. Uniquely, Opensignal tests mobile video streaming at scale and does not estimate video experience based on speed tests or other indirect measurements.
Opensignal has analyzed the experience of our users across Singtel group’s mobile operator subsidiaries and regional associates. We found that while there is a big gap between Singtel's wholly-owned entities in Singapore and Australia (Optus) and the rest in Download Speed Experience, the gap was narrower for both Voice App Experience and Video Experience.
Opensignal analyzed our users’ mobile experience in the urban and rural areas of the Philippines. We found that our rural users on average experienced 14 percentage points lower 4G Availability than their peers in the urban areas, which dramatically influenced their Download Speed Experience, with rural users having to rely more on 3G networks.
