More usable spectrum boosts the 4G and 5G experience
In this new global analysis, Opensignal found that with higher amounts of mobile spectrum users see much faster average download and upload speeds — both for 4G and 5G networks — with download speed increases of up to 2.6 times on higher spectrum bandwidth with 4G, and by up to 1.7 times on 5G. Furthermore, the impact is seen on user experience with video and gaming applications, with 4G again seeing a more prominent increase.

Opensignal’s new analysis shows that with 5G, users’ Games and Video Experience is more consistent and drops less at busy hours of the day than when using 4G. However, while 5G download speeds used to also be more consistent than 4G back in 2022, now there is little difference with 4G, likely because of rising 5G adoption.
